Reading Together Under the Tent
Liam and his father build a cozy blanket tent in the living room. Under the warm light of a flashlight, they share a book and drift off to sleep together.
Inside the cozy living room, Liam and his father are building a small fabric tent in the middle of the floor. They drape a soft blue blanket over the large wooden table and use thick, heavy pillows to hold the four corners down. Liam happily hugs his fluffy white cloud pillow and crawls in and out of the newly finished tent. He eagerly invites his father to crawl inside and play hide-and-seek. His father smiles, bends down, and crawls in with a small flashlight and their favorite storybook.
Inside the handmade fabric tent, the space is warm and safe from the winter wind. His father turns on the small flashlight and hangs it from the top of the tent, letting a soft yellow light fill the small space. The glowing light shines through the fabric, looking like tiny stars twinkling in the dark. Liam sits very close to his father, sharing a soft felt blanket over their legs. He looks up at his father's face, waiting excitedly for his father to open the colorful book.
His father opens the first page of the book and points to a picture of a brown bear climbing a tall tree to find sweet honey. Liam watches his father's finger move across the page, listening quietly to the slow, warm sound of his father's voice. The little boy touches the smooth paper page, imagining himself walking along the forest trail with the bear. Whenever his father describes the bear climbing high, Liam snuggles close to his father and laughs happily.
As the night grows late, the room outside the tent becomes quiet, and the winter wind blows softly against the window. But inside the little tent, the two of them feel very warm and safe under the golden light. Liam rests his chin on his father's chest, turning the colorful pages together. He whispers to his father that he wants to go camping in a real forest next summer to see real bears. His father gently pats Liam's head and promises to take him when the weather gets warm.
The last page of the story is closed, and Liam's eyes are very heavy and sleepy. His father turns off the small flashlight, letting the tent fade into the soft darkness of the room. Liam hugs his cloud pillow tight, curling up against his father's side under the warm blanket. He whispers a tiny, quiet goodnight to his father. His father wraps his arms around Liam, kisses his forehead, and they fall asleep together inside the cozy fabric tent.
