The Willow's Lost Song

Night falls over the quiet forest. Luna sits on a high oak branch in front of her hollow tree library with her wings holding a book of red autumn leaves. Wearing her round reading glasses Luna reads the ancient words under the soft yellow moonbeam

Luna closes her book and looks at the pond. The weeping willow stands completely still. Usually it rustles its leaves to sing a sweet song but tonight the branches hang silent. Luna wonders why and asks - Why is the willow not singing Luna spreads her wings and flies down to investigate

Luna lands on the grass and opens her glowing leaf scroll to search for the wind. The soft green light guides her along a path of damp moss. The glowing leaf points to a hollow log where the south wind is asleep snoring softly

Standing before the hollow log Luna whispers - Wake up south wind Luna knocks gently on the wood three times. The lazy wind wiggles out stretching and blowing shiny pollen into the cool night air. Luna patiently tells the wind about the sad, silent willow tree by the lake

The south wind rises lifting Luna's wings as they fly back to the lake. The breeze blows through the leaves making the willow rustle a sweet lullaby. Perching on her branch Luna smiles and whispers - Ah, so that is why the willow sings the song of the south wind
