The Secret of the Glowing Roots
Luna the wise owl follows the glowing underground roots of an old pine tree and finds they are warming a family of forest mice sleeping in the winter cold.
Night is here in the quiet forest. Luna stands inside her warm oak tree library placing red maple leaves neatly on the wooden shelves. Outside a gentle winter wind blows making dry leaves fall softly through the dark branches
Luna looks out of her window and sees a soft yellow light on the forest floor. The roots of the giant pine tree are glowing with warm gold colors. Luna wonders why and asks - Why are the roots glowing? Luna puts on her reading glasses and flies down
Luna lands on the cold winter snow. She touches the glowing roots with her wings and feels a warm breeze. The shiny gold roots form a pathway that leads Luna straight into a small hollow space under the pine tree
Inside the dark earth pocket a family of tiny forest mice curls up asleep. The warm pine roots wrap around the little mice like a cozy blanket keeping them warm in the cold night. Luna whispers softly - Sleep well little friends
The tiny mice wiggle and smile in their sleep. Luna flies back up to her high oak nest tucking her wings inside her soft leaf bed under the starlight. Luna closes her golden eyes and whispers - Ah, so that is why the tree keeps the little mice warm
