Lucas happily welcomes Kenji, a new friend who just moved from another country, by playing a fun game of ball without any language barriers.
Lucas played by himself on the spacious green lawn of the apartment complex. He wore a bright green t-shirt and had a cheerful smile on his face. Suddenly, he noticed a new boy standing shyly next to his mother. The boy's name was Kenji. He wore a bright orange hooded jacket and held a small paper crane tightly against his chest. Lucas stood up straight and waved his arms warmly to welcome him. - Hello! Would you like to come over here and play with me? Lucas called out loudly with a big, friendly smile.
Kenji looked at Lucas with a confused expression and shook his head slightly, stepping back behind his mother. He had just moved from another country and did not understand Lucas's language. Kenji felt a bit nervous in this unfamiliar place. Lucas noticed the new boy's confusion and shyness. He quickly thought of a wonderful way to connect without using any words. Lucas bent down on the cool green grass, picked up his round plastic ball, and smiled warmly at Kenji. He held the ball up in the air, showing it to the new boy.
Lucas gently placed the round plastic ball on the lush green grass. He used his foot to push the ball softly across the lawn toward Kenji. The ball rolled slowly under the warm sunshine. Kenji looked surprised as the ball rolled right to his feet. He looked up and saw Lucas nodding encouragingly. Kenji hesitated for a moment, then tapped the ball with his shoe, sending it rolling back toward Lucas. He watched the ball roll across the green lawn with a small smile. Lucas stopped the ball with his shoe and laughed happily.
The plastic ball kept rolling back and forth between the two boys on the wide lawn. Cheerful laughter began to echo across the entire playground. All of Kenji's nervousness and worry completely disappeared. The two boys chased the ball together, high-fiving and laughing out loud whenever one of them caught it. Even though they did not speak the same language, the fun game of ball connected the two new friends in a natural way. They ran around the soft grass, their shoes squeaking slightly. They felt very happy to play together under the blue sky.
Lucas took Kenji's hand and led him toward the bright red slide in the middle of the playground. To help Kenji feel more confident, Lucas climbed up the wooden steps first. He sat at the top and slid down the smooth slide safely, laughing aloud. Kenji watched Lucas carefully and then eagerly climbed up after him. He slid down very fast with his hands raised high in the air. Kenji cheered with joy when his feet touched the soft sand below. Lucas clapped his hands and cheered for his new friend.
After playing for a long time, the two boys sat down to rest on a wooden bench in the cool shade of a tree. Kenji reached into his orange jacket pocket and pulled out the shiny blue paper crane he had held earlier. He placed the delicate paper bird gently into Lucas's small open hand as a gift. Lucas accepted the gift very carefully. He held the little paper bird in his palm, looking at it with great interest. The paper crane looked beautiful under the bright sunlight filtering through the leaves.
Lucas smiled brightly and bowed his head slightly in the Japanese style to show his gratitude, just as he had seen on television. Kenji laughed at his new friend's sweet gesture and bowed back politely. The two boys high-fived each other with a loud slap. Lucas felt very happy to receive the special gift and knew that he had found a wonderful new neighbor. He carefully placed the blue paper crane inside his pocket to keep it safe. Kenji smiled warmly, feeling glad that his gift made Lucas happy.
As the afternoon faded, the mothers of the two boys walked over and reminded them to wash their hands before heading home for dinner. Lucas waved goodbye to Kenji with a bright smile on his face. Kenji also smiled and waved back, reluctant to leave. The two boys walked away next to their mothers, feeling happy and looking forward to playing ball together at the playground tomorrow afternoon. Lucas held his mother's hand and told her all about his new friend. He could not wait to share more toys with Kenji.
